On Monday, April 30th 2013, Sensei McShane and Mr. Angel conduced a school assembly at Sacred Heart School in Taftville, CT.
The presentation, called "Focus And Respect", was delivered to over 200 Norwich area children between the ages of four and thirteen. Teaching only the basic defenses of karate, the two instructors from America's Best Defense martial arts in Norwich made it clear that being a good student requires focus, respect, and discipline, whether it's in the dojo or elementary school.
After teaching five different blocking techniques, the group was instructed on how to use self-defense to escape from an adult attacker grabbing both wrists. It was emphasized that after separating from an adult assailant, the only strategy is to run and make a lot of noise, rather than attempting to use karate skills to overcome them.
At the end two students were chosen to break boards using techniques learned that day, and the instructors ended with a Q&A session.
They will be delivering the same karate presentation at Sayles Elementary School in Baltic, CT on Wednesday, May 8th, 2013.
